How to clean sex toys

A practical hygiene routine for silicone, glass, and waterproof toys — without damaging motors or surfaces.

Updated June 2026

Clean toys protect your health and extend product life. The routine depends on material and whether the toy is motorized or fully sealed.

After every use

  1. Rinse with warm water (no boiling motorized toys)
  2. Wash with unscented mild soap or dedicated toy cleaner
  3. Rinse thoroughly — soap residue causes irritation
  4. Pat dry with a lint-free towel; air-dry completely before storage

Deep clean (monthly or between partners)

  • Silicone (motorless or sealed) — 3 minutes in boiling water if manufacturer allows
  • Glass / steel — boiling water or dishwasher top rack (no detergent scent)
  • Motorized silicone — toy cleaner wipe + UV sanitizer optional; never submerge unless IPX7 rated

Storage rules

  • Store each toy in its own pouch — silicone-to-silicone contact can cause material reactions
  • Remove batteries from battery-operated toys during storage
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and extreme heat

What not to do

  • Do not use bleach, alcohol wipes, or harsh disinfectants unless manufacturer specifies
  • Do not charge while damp — wait until charging port is fully dry
  • Do not share porous toys — they cannot be fully sanitized
